Promissory Note Information
Perkins Loan
In order to simplify the process of signing a promissory note for a Perkins Loan, the
Federal Regulations were changed so that a Master Promissory Note must be signed.
If you have accepted a Perkins Loan and
not yet signed one of these new Master Promissory Notes,
please go to the website of our billing servicer,
ECSI
.
NOTE: Wait at least one business day after accepting your loan. During that time, ECSI will load your award information into its Electronic Promissory Note system.
Short Term Loans
- When you are awarded a short term loan by the
Office of Student Financial Services or a UW-Madison campus department,
the Student Loans Office prepares a promissory note.
- The promissory note is delivered to the Bursar's Office,
21 N Park Street, Suite 7101, by 1:00 PM the day after your award is finalized.
- The promissory note is held at the Bursar's Office for you to sign.
At that time your short term loan check is processed.
- Bring a photo ID for identification.
- Bursar's Office hours - 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
All Other Loans
NOTE: Bank loans are not included in this process. They are managed by the Office of Student Financial Services and the bank from which the loan is drawn.
Included in the conditions outlined below are Federal Health Profession Loans - Pharmacy, Primary Care Loans, Federal Nursing Loans, and UW Madison Long Term Loans.
- The Office of Student Financial Services notifies
the Student Loans Office when you have accepted a loan.
- The Student Loans Office prepares and mails a promissory note
and other loan documents to your mailing address, as listed on the My UW website.
- These documents must be completed, signed and returned before the loan
can be released into your student account. Delays in returning these properly completed
documents may result in cancellation of this award by the Financial Aid Office.
- Return receipt of the loan documents is recorded on the student loan system.
- The loan is then disbursed onto your student account according to Federal and Institutional regulations. (If your award is increased during the year, an addtional promissory note will be sent for you to sign.)
