Placing An Order with MDS:

The MDS Web Ordering System allows customers to order from MDS and all the Prime Vendors at one time, through one web site.

Any University of Wisconsin Departments, State Agencies, Municipalities, or School Districts can purchase through MDS. If you have any questions about your order, delivery time, how to place an order, or any other MDS related issues, please contact MDS Customer Service.


  1. Use the following address to enter the MDS Web Ordering System: http://mds.bussvc.wisc.edu/order/default.asp
  1. The first screen you will see is the login area. Login buttons are found on the lower right side of the screen. If you have an MD number click Been Here, if you do not have an MD number click I'm New for instructions and a form for obtaining one.

  1. Next, enter your MD number and Password, then Press Enter. You will be taken directly to the MDS Store Lobby.

  1. Now you are in the MDS Store Lobby, select the vendor you want to purchase from and you will be linked directly to the appropriate web ordering system. From this screen, you may also order items in MDS stock (such as paper, stamps, record storage cartons, and more) by choosing the Shop at our MDS Warehouse link or utilizing the Search MDS Stock box in the upper left corner of the screen.

  1. Select Shop at out PC prime vendor, Dell Computer, to order from Dell using your MD number. This will bring you to the intermediate screen below, which provides some further information about ordering through Dell. Choose the Shop at Dell link to proceed. Please refer to DoIT's in-depth Ordering Dell products through MDS instruction set for more detailed information.

  2. By choosing the Shop at Dell link, you will be taken directly to the Dell website (as shown below) to place your order. Select the item(s) you wish to order, then choose Submit Order Requisition once you are finished shopping at the Dell site. This will return your order to your MDS shopping cart.

  3. When selecting Fisher Scientific, you will link directly to the Fisher Scientific web ordering system. Once you have finished and submitted your order, you will be brought back to the MDS ordering system shopping cart.

  4. When selecting VWR, you will be taken to an intermediate screen that provides further ordering information. Choose the Shop at VWR link to continue to the web ordering system. Once your order is complete, choose checkout and then place your order. This will return the order to your MDS shopping cart.

  5. When selecting Corporate Express, you will link directly to the Corporate Express web ordering system and will be brought to a zip code request page. Enter your zip code to continue to the web ordering system. Use the search box at the top of the screen or the product categories on the left-hand side to add items to your cart. Once your order is completed, click "Check Out" and "Confirm Order" to return to your MDS shopping cart.

  6. When selecting Grainger, you will link directly to the Grainger web ordering system. After completing your order, click on submit requisition. This will return your order to your MDS shopping cart.

  7. When selecting Airgas, you will be taken to an intermediate screen that provides further ordering information. Choose the Shop at Airgas link to continue to the web ordering system. Once your order is complete, choose Check Out. This will return the order to your MDS shopping cart.

  8. After you have finished ordering from the various vendors you will see everything you have selected in your MDS shopping cart. At this point you may still choose to change a quantity or to delete items from your cart. To update a quantity, enter the new amount desired in the Quantity box and click the Update Cart button. To delete an item, click on the red X to the right of the item you wish to delete. To complete your order, click on the Purchase button.

  9. Select the shipping address you want. If you need any addresses added, please contact MDS Customer Service. Use the pull down option to access all of your possible address selections.

  10. To finish your order, click Send Order in the MDS web ordering system and everything you ordered from the various vendors will then be submitted (you may receive multiple confirmations, when your order contains items from multiple vendors). Click on your order number to get a printable copy of your entire order.
